Case Study no. 1: Main Lounge, private residence
These set of photos is a visual tour of my first design and build project where I created a double storey back extension to what was an original nineteen fifties detached house. The first two ‘before’ photos give you an idea of the floor area added as well as the structural details made to accommodate new columns required to help make the ‘new’ house sound. The ‘after’ photos is another short visual tour of my new main space as it currently is, with personal and decorative pieces that create a welcoming interesting ambience.
Case Study no. 2: Built-in bookcase, private residence
Case study two tells a story of how things change when decoration begins and ends. The first set of images give you a ‘before & after’ situation where built in book cases were specified and installed and how the dining space now functions as a small library with an antique french refectory table that becomes a dining table and study desk for the family depending on the time of day. The second group are photos of the main kitchen ‘before & after’, beginning with an image of how the kitchen was before the newly prepped space was incorporated and reconfigured to accommodate a much-needed central island and storage. What follows are new ‘after’ photos of the kitchen with a central island-cum-breakfast bar, flanked by artwork and lighting to create contrast and interest in what is a neutral modern palette.
Case Study no. 3: Family bathrooms, Private Residence, Seal village
When I began working on this renovation, my client was quite specific about what she felt was required in her daughter’s en suite bathroom (a section carved out of the existing wardrobe nook and therefore very limited on space), and the newly formed family bathroom. Both spaces were a challenge to do because of their size and floor area. However, with careful deliberation and meticulous research, both spaces got what they both needed leaving mother, daughter and family, satisfied with what they described as functional yet attractive rooms.
Case Study no. 4: Boy’s Bedroom, Private Residence, Dunton Green
When a good friend approached me to decorate her teen age son’s bedroom, she emphasized the need to create a space that had a masculine look with muted workable colours and shapes to help make it acceptable to her son’s changing taste. This brief led us to create a bedroom with varying tones of grey and white made bolder by a geometric yet decorative accent wall to help create interest in an adult-like environment.
